Long Weekend Getaway to Traverse City

Concluding my series on adventures we took ‘Up North’ are details from our full getaway to Traverse City. Traverse City is a popular destination for Michigan residents to visit throughout the year. It’s busiest during the warmer months, but not much closes down during the winter, which makes winter an excellent time to visit to avoid crowds. Even with Covid, there are still plenty of extremely safe things to do in Traverse City.

Explore Marshall, Michigan During a Day Trip

For the longest time I wanted to explore Marshall, Michigan during a day trip. Marshall is a town in southern Michigan with a ton of interesting history significant to both the state and United States. For one, Marshall once was in the running to become the Capitol city of Michigan. And two, the ruling in the Crosswhite Case helped contribute to the inevitable US Civil War.

Besides those facts, the Marshall Historic District is considered one of the US’ most architecturally significant National Historic Landmark Districts. With over 850 buildings, there are many original, well kept examples of 19th century architecture here. If you’re interested in architecture, you must add Marshall to your bucket list!

The Ultimate Day Trip to Douglas, Michigan

Douglas, Michigan is overlooked by local Michigan travelers for the bigger, well-known town of Saugatuck, just across the lake. While Saugatuck is rightfully amazing, there is a lot Douglas offers. That is why my family and I planned the ultimate day trip to Douglas, Michigan! Prior to visiting, I did my research to ensure we hit up all we could within one day.

While Saugatuck and Douglas share the moniker Art Coast of Michigan, Douglas is known as the Village of Friendliness. Now after hearing that, how can you not visit?
