Hello from beautiful Michigan – America’s high five!
I’m Jackie – born and raised in western Michigan. After spending 8 years in Washington D.C., Amman, Jordan, and Nairobi, Kenya, I finally returned home. And with that, a renewed love and interest in my home state was born.
Growing up, I never traveled around Michigan much (I didn’t even know what to even do)! Once I returned home, my husband Tony and I decided to go on day trips and weekend getaways. This led to a love and passion for Michigan. And the idea to convert these mini adventures to a blog was born.
But before I could get seriously invested in the blog, we had a son – Winston! As Winston grows, we want to instill in him a spirit of curiosity and wonder, love of history and nature, and positive attitude for the adventure each day brings.
I hope this blog does my home state proud and showcases its diverse, wonderful attractions that are increasingly recognized by national publications as one of the top places to travel in the United States. I also hope to reawaken a love for Michigan among its residents who call the mitten home and inspire more people to explore.
This travel blog outlines trips we take across Michigan and eventually, we’ll explore more throughout the Midwest (& beyond), focusing mainly on day trips and brief getaways. Each post contains an itinerary of our trip as well as detailed information on what we saw and did. I also provide alternative suggestions of other sites and activities in the area. Please ask questions or offer suggestions on what you’d like to see more of so that I can keep improving!
